Descente ALLTERRAIN
To celebrate the brand’s 10th anniversary, we headed to the White Mounth Munros to test out their latest collection.
To kick off 2023, we have partnered with Descente ALLTERRAIN to test out key items from the brand's impressive collection. We chose to take on the White Mounth munros to see how the garments faired against the harsh conditions of the Cairngorms.
Once again, we had some standout pieces crafted at Descente's Misuzawa Down Factory. The apparel factory is located in the town formerly known as Mizusawa, but now as Oshu City, in Iwate Prefecture, in the northern part of Japan's main island and produces some of the best down gear on the planet. Following our first outing in AW'21, we reacquainted our admiration for the Misuzawa Down Mountaineer jacket. This highly waterproof down jacket features a DERMIZAX® MICRO STRETCH outer with heat-bonded, non-quilt and seam tape processing to achieve high water resistance and prevent moisture entry. A Parazip hood system allows the hood to be closed when not in use but opened fast and efficiently when conditions change. Pit-zips come standard for increased ventilation, and with every garment, it is possible to track the entire feather procurement process by using only traceable down with Downpass certification.
We also tried out the Crevasse-S Mizusawa Down jacket, which typifies the ALLTERRAIN "form follows function" principle. New for 2022, this model uses the brand's SCHEMATECH SKY fabric, a functional knit fabric developed for improved freedom of movement. In addition, its special jacquard raschel knit enables varying degrees of stretchability to be incorporated into a single piece of cloth, achieving high mobility and comfort. An active heat-generating HEAT NAVI lining also helps to maintain a comfortable temperature.
As much as both down jackets performed effortlessly with the conditions at hand when the rain began to pour it was the GORE-TEX PACLITE® Active Shell jacket that we reached for to keep us covered from the rain. This durably waterproof shell was built to endure these harsh conditions and features several practical details to ensure functionality for the wearer. For example, the brand's newly developed noiseless block fit adjustment tabs eliminate sleeve cuff discomfort, and the Cohaesive™ cord lock system makes fit adjustments much simpler and more precise.
